If your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep them home, call or email me, and alert their MD for guidance: fever of 100 degrees or more, chills, shaking chills; difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; new loss of taste or smell; muscle aches or body aches; cough (not due to other known cause such as a chronic cough or asthma). If your child exhibits any of these symptoms at school, they will be sent home.
If your child is sent home sick from school, the school nurse will discuss next steps with you at that time.
Children MUST stay home if they have a fever of 100 degrees or higher! They may return to school when they have been fever-free for a full 24 hours WITHOUT the use/assistance of fever-lowering medications like Tylenol and/or Ibuprofen.
If your child is started on antibiotics for an infection, they are to remain home for a full 24 hours from the time of their first dose of antibiotic (Ex: first dose was given at 12pm. They can return the next day at 12 pm). This may differ from what your pediatrician says.
If your child vomits at home, they need to be vomit free for a full 24 hours before they can return.
COVID:
If your child tests positive for covid, please alert the school nurse. Your child will need to be at home isolating THROUGH day 5. They may return to school on day 6 if they are feeling better, have been fever free x 24 hours without the assistance of fever lowering medications and are not actively coughing a lot, and don't have a majorly runny nose. They must be re-tested on day 6 (home kit is fine to use) and if negative, they can return to school same day with or without a mask. We recommend they wear a mask through day 10, but it is not required. If they test positive on day 6 but are feeling better and meet the requirements for a safe return (listed above), they can return, but MUST wear a mask through day 10.
