If your child has any of the following symptoms, please keep them home, call or email me, and alert their MD for guidance: fever of 100 degrees or more, chills, shaking chills; difficulty breathing or shortness of breath; new loss of taste or smell; muscle aches or body aches; cough (not due to other known cause such as a chronic cough or asthma). If your child exhibits any of these symptoms at school, they will be sent home.
If your child has any of the following symptoms, in combination with other symptoms, please keep them home, call or email the school nurse, and contact their pediatrician (hence, they have 2 symptoms): sore throat; nausea, vomiting or diarrhea; headache; fatigue; nasal congestion or runny nose.
Based on our discussion about your child's illness, I may need to refer you to your child's pediatrician.
If your child is sent home sick from school, the school nurse will discuss next steps with you at that time.
We are no longer conducting ANY covid testing at school, nor are we doing any contact tracing. Parents/guardians are aware of the potential signs and symptoms of covid (see above), so, if your child exhibits any of these symptoms, a home covid test should be conducted.
Please DO NOT ASSUME that a cold is "just a cold" or vomiting is "just the stomach bug." We've had people test after vomiting only and test positive for covid. We've also had people test after telling us that their child has a cold and test positive for covid as well.
If your child tests positive for covid, please alert the school nurse. Your child will need to be at home isolating THROUGH day 5. They may return to school on day 6 if they are feeling better, have been fever free x 24 hours without the assistance of fever lowering medications and are not actively coughing a lot, and don't have a majorly runny nose. They must be re-tested on day 6 (home kit is fine to use) and if negative, they can return to school same day with or without a mask. We recommend they wear a mask through day 10, but it is not required. If they test positive on day 6 but are feeling better and meet the requirements for a safe return (listed above), they can return, but MUST wear a mask through day 10.
If made of cloth, please know that two or more layers are preferred, as one layer of material doesn't offer a lot of protection
Change masks daily! Please rotate masks. If you don't launder after each use, please let a mask sit for 2+ days before reuse.
Please check the inside of your children's mask daily. If dirty, please launder before reuse.
Everyone should have a few extra masks in their backpacks in case the one they're wearing breaks, gets wet, gets dirty, etc.
Please don't send your child to school with an adult size mask. They're too big on the children, and they don't offer adequate protection to your child or the people around them.
